I love pinwheels. As a design element, pinwheels are whimsical enough for children but still appropriate for fun-loving adults. And, when you discover how easy they are to make, you find yourself using them in a lot of craft projects — at least, I did. For this card, I used colors that would give a summery feel. With the versatile sentiment, it’s appropriate for many occasions. People will marvel you made the card yourself; remember, there’s no need to tell them how simple it is.
Cut out a pinwheel shape using a die cut machine. (If you don’t have a die cut machine, use this template to cut the shape out. Cut along the lines and punch holes with a needle or awl where indicated.) The pinwheel used here is 3.5” square.
Ink up a brayer with Kaleidacolor Dye Ink in Caribbean Sea. Spray the brayer with Ink Potion No. 9 to blend the ink (optional), then roll onto the pinwheel shape. Add more ink and IP 9 as needed. Repeat to color the other side.
Create the pinwheel by folding each hole into the center. Secure with a brad.
Cut a 6” piece of yellow ribbon and tie a knot in the center. Glue the ribbon in the center of the pinwheel, over the brad.
Cut a piece of manilla cardstock approximately 6” x 5.25”. Cover the cardstock with VersaMagic Chalk Ink in Key Lime, applying the ink directly from the pad. Let air dry for a few minutes or dry with a heat gun.
Using Kaleidacolor in Caribbean Sea, stamp a swirl (Fancy Pants) several times onto manilla cardstock.
Apply clear embossing powder to a few of the stamped swirls, then emboss with a heat gun.
Adhere the pinwheel to the cardstock.
Cut a piece of green polka dot ribbon (May Arts) about 4” long and adhere under the pinwheel to form the stick. Stamp sentiment “Go to your happy place” (Paper Smooches) with Memento Dye Ink in Cottage Ivy.
Adhere the layering piece to a 6.5×5” manilla card.
